Lighting Design

This example shows the kind of information that can be contained in a design lesson.

LIGHT ACCESS

In the previous lesson you learned about the components of Daylighting systems:

  • Monitors, Window Walls, Clerestories and Skylights
  • Light Shelves
  • Blinds and Shades
  • Integrated Electric lights

In this lesson you will learn about the techniques for daylight design using Monitors, Window Walls, Clerestories, and Skylights. At the end of the lesson you will understand these four basic daylight systems, and the reasons for choosing them for specific design situations.

Roof Monitors

A roof monitor consists of a flat roof section fully or partially raised above the adjacent roof with vertical glazing on all or some of the sides. Here we illustrate a south facing roof monitor with suspended baffles to diffuse direct sunlight.
